Improved CCG Parsing with Semi-supervised Supertagging

چکیده
Current supervised parsers are limited by the size of their labelled training data, making improving them with unlabelled data an important goal. We show how a state-of-theart CCG parser can be enhanced, by predicting lexical categories using unsupervised vector-space embeddings of words. The use of word embeddings enables our model to better generalize from the labelled data, and allows us to accurately assign lexical categories without depending on a POS-tagger. Our approach leads to substantial improvements in dependency parsing results over the standard supervised CCG parser when evaluated on Wall Street Journal (0.8%), Wikipedia (1.8%) and biomedical (3.4%) text. We compare the performance of two recently proposed approaches for classification using a wide variety of word embeddings. We also give a detailed error analysis demonstrating where using embeddings outperforms traditional feature sets, and showing how including POS features can decrease accuracy.

متن کاملCCG Supertagging with a Recurrent Neural Network
Recent work on supertagging using a feedforward neural network achieved significant improvements for CCG supertagging and parsing (Lewis and Steedman, 2014). However, their architecture is limited to considering local contexts and does not naturally model sequences of arbitrary length. In this paper, we show how directly capturing sequence information using a recurrent neural network leads to f...
متن کاملIntegrated Supertagging and Parsing
Parsing is the task of assigning syntactic or semantic structure to a natural language sentence. This thesis focuses on syntactic parsing with Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG; Steedman 2000). CCG allows incremental processing, which is essential for speech recognition and some machine translation models, and it can build semantic structure in tandem with syntactic parsing. Supertagging solv...
متن کاملEfficient CCG Parsing: A* versus Adaptive Supertagging
We present a systematic comparison and combination of two orthogonal techniques for efficient parsing of Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG). First we consider adaptive supertagging, a widely used approximate search technique that prunes most lexical categories from the parser’s search space using a separate sequence model. Next we consider several variants on A*, a classic exact search techni...
متن کاملA Dynamic Window Neural Network for CCG Supertagging
Combinatory Category Grammar (CCG) supertagging is a task to assign lexical categories to each word in a sentence. Almost all previous methods use fixed context window sizes to encode input tokens. However, it is obvious that different tags usually rely on different context window sizes. This motivates us to build a supertagger with a dynamic window approach, which can be treated as an attentio...
